The David Douglas Music-CD Fund has a current balance of $3,005 as of August 23, 2010. Dean acknowledged being ready to help finalize the printing of CD covers. Christian School Society of Portland recognized as a new paying member. It was noted that our reserves are getting low and a greater emphasis on sponsors, advertisers, increasing membership and access to community grants will help balance our budget in continuing the tradition of successful GABA community events into the future.
2010 FUN-O-RAMA FAIR & CRUISE-IN: In Lou’s absence, current update for 2011 Fun-o-Rama Fair has been tabled until next month. Dean acknowledged city permit fees are creating a financial burden for hosting community outreach hosted events. Dean suggested a “Fun Run” for early morning of next year’s F-O-R Fair. It was noted that importance must be maintained that our annual Fun-o-Rama functions are in the heart of Gateway & serving our gateway community. Emphasis on bringing back key sponsors is imperative. Fred suggested that consideration should be made in bringing back the F-O-R parade, highlighting past success and GABA recognition.
GATEWAY STRATEGIC & VISION PLANNING ~ MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS: Dawn requested additional Board input in preparing final analysis involving our strategic & vision planning covering Advocacy, Partnership, Education/Meetings/Involvement & Membership. Work is still in progress identifying the top 3 focus priorities within our 4 categories. Oregon Historical Society (Chet Orloff) is scheduled speaker at our October 14th meeting. City Commissioner Amanda Fritz will be featured at our November 11th meeting. Discussion of Holiday Party ideas acknowledged.
NEW BUSINESS: AJ noted Columbia Bank to budget & host future community events at his Gateway Branch. Fred suggested revisiting and creating new sponsored GABA Member Maps and/or Directories in showcasing our Gateway businesses. Dawn suggested having “feature” members host future breakfast, lunch or after-hour functions (mix it up) in bringing GABA members together aside from our monthly meetings. Alan volunteered putting together a budget for anticipated costs in having the Fun-o-Rama parade return, Board approved. Consideration was made in having 2 events, the current Fair & Cruise-In in late summer and the Parade in May-June (for school~youth involvement including bands).
